Every engine your buyers actually use
Where your customers are asking, and what they are being told
Your customers are asking 5 different AI engines about your trade every day, and each one works differently enough that being strong in one says very little about the rest. Pick the one they use, or scan your site and see all of them at once.
The five, and what we read from each
- ChatGPTAPI + web searchSomebody describes their problem to ChatGPT and gets three businesses back. This finds out whether one of them is yours, and hands you the changes that would make it so.
- ClaudeAPI + web searchFewer people, further along. This is where the careful question gets asked, the one somebody types before spending real money, often on behalf of someone else.
- PerplexityAPI + web searchThe one engine on this list that reliably sends you traffic, because it shows its sources and people click them.
- GeminiGroundedThe engine most people use without deciding to. It is already in the search bar, the phone and the inbox they were using anyway.
- Google AI OverviewsLive SERPThe one your customers see without asking for it, sitting above the search results they actually came for.
Which surface we read, and why we say so
We read the public API or the live search surface for each engine, and every result you get is labelled with which. That distinction is the first question a technical buyer asks and the first attack a competitor makes, so it is on the cell rather than in a footnote: the API asks your question cold, and the app on somebody's phone answers it with their history, their account and their location attached. Both are real. Only one of them can be asked the same way twice, which is what makes a before-and-after mean anything. Read exactly how the score is calculated.
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews are the trade marks of their respective owners. MentionMachine is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any of them, and the marks drawn beside their names on these pages are our own. Each engine's own page carries the date its behaviour was last checked.
