When something looks wrong

ChatGPT told me something different

I asked ChatGPT myself and got a different answer. Is your data wrong?

At a glance

The ChatGPT app answers you through your own history, memory and location; we ask the provider’s API from a clean context. They are two different systems that legitimately differ.

Probably not. But you are almost certainly not asking the same thing we are, and we would rather explain that than pretend the difference does not exist.

The consumer app is not the API

When you use ChatGPT in a browser, your answer is shaped by your account's memory, your chat history, your location, whether browsing was triggered, and the model that particular session used. We query the provider's API from a clean context with no history and no personalisation. Those are different systems and they legitimately differ.

We say this on every result rather than hiding it, because a competitor claiming to show you “what ChatGPT users see” is claiming something no one can currently deliver.

Other reasons for a difference

  • Date. Check the timestamp on the answer. Anything more than a few days old may simply be out of date. Re-run with fresh answers to compare like for like.

  • Wording. “Best detailer in Los Angeles” and “who should I use to detail my car in LA” are different questions and get different answers.

  • Variance. Ask it three times yourself and you may get three answers.

If you think we have genuinely misread an answer (marked you absent when you are named, for instance), send us the scan link. The full answer text is stored, so it is a checkable disagreement rather than an argument.
